While I could've auditioned for and likely got into a conservatory or a college/university with a reputation for a top tier music department: what took me to WCSU was the location (roughly three miles from where I grew up in Danbury) and music faculty; some of whom literally watched me grow up both physically and as a musician. More importantly they earned their pay and reputation as music faculty by still being able to teach me things despite already having a few years in the musical professional environment. No matter your level in any profession you never stop learning. You never go the route of complacency."

"I attended WCSU as a transfer commuter student from Westchester County, New York. The entire Communication Dept. made me feel very welcome. Taking two radio courses and class credit at the campus radio station WXCI, influenced how to express my music knowledge. As a student and alumna, I've mentored WXCI students, participated at their annual alumni weekend anniversary of the station, created their social media position, and helped produce WCSU's annual TV program "Election Connection" to simulcast live state election results. WCSU's Communication Dept. recruited me to their Media Arts Advisory Council in 2014, which assists networking opportunities for students. The Career Success Center's resume workshops and career fairs helped me gain internships at both of Danbury's local radio stations: Berkshire Broadcasting (98Q/WLAD) and Townsquare Media Danbury (i95/The Wolf)! I've also learned that networking can lead to amazing opportunities from any aspect of your life. I started my own weekly music podcast "Music Notes with Jess" in 2019, available to stream on multiple digital platforms. Since its original launch, listeners tune in worldwide and audience size has quadrupled! Professional training, utilizing my media and networking experience has helped my dreams come true, thanks to WCSU. Graduating from there is my proudest accomplishment. Happy 120th WCSU!"

After a few years, I was excited to return to my first love, WCSU, as a Resident Director, and I strived to provide the same positive experience that I had for others. After a few years of helping students graduate and transition into the workforce, I joined Indeed as a Client Success Specialist where "I help people get jobs" (it's so much more than just a slogan). No wonder, I decided seven years ago to work here and continue to support first-generation and low-income students.
