Message from the Dean
Thank you for visiting the School of Professional Studies at Western Connecticut State University.
The School of Professional Studies offers outstanding programs in Education, Educational Psychology, Health Promotion, Nursing and Social Work. These programs offer the knowledge and skills to provide you with real-life experiences to excel as clinical practitioners, teachers, healthcare advocates and to address social concerns in the community. Our undergraduate programs are well respected in the state and have achieved national recognition. In addition, we offer graduate programs in nursing which include preparation in Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner or Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist. The Education Department offers a Master’s in education along with a Master’s in counseling. The School of Professional Studies also offers two doctoral degrees one through the Nursing Department in nursing education and one from the Education Department in Educational Leadership. These two doctoral programs prepare nurses to become nurse educators, and teachers to become administrators in the schools. There is opportunity for an interdisciplinary education between the levels of educational programs and different departments at the university. Our faculty are experts in their field and are active in their discipline. All programs in the School of Professional Studies are fully accredited.
The departments within the School of Professional Studies have community partnerships that provide excellent clinical experiences and internships that afford the hands on experience that connect critical thinking theory from the classroom to clinical practice. Our clinical partners are well regarded as the best sites within the education and healthcare field. You will graduate ready to start a career in one of our dynamic professions.
