COVID-19 Illness and Exposure Guidelines

What to do if you have COVID
Please use this guide to take care of yourself and to protect and notify others around you.
- Report your condition here: https://westconn.tfaforms.net/201
- Stay home and do not come to campus!
- If you are a residential student, you must inform your Housing and Residence Life (HRL) staff. They will provide directions.
- Notify close contacts. See section below.
- Isolate for five days. This includes:
- Monitoring your symptoms. If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), seek emergency medical care immediately
- Staying in a separate room from other household members, if possible
- Using a separate bathroom, if possible
- Taking steps to improve ventilation at home, if possible
- Avoiding contact with other members of the household, as well as pets
- Not sharing personal household items, like cups, towels and utensils
- Wearing a well-fitted mask when you need to be around other people
- For you, Day 0 is the day of the positive diagnosis
- If on Day 5 you have been symptom- and fever-free WITHOUT any medications for 24 hours, you can exit isolation on Day 6.
- If you are still symptomatic, remain in isolation until you are symptom- and fever-free WITHOUT any medications for at least 24 hours.
- Keep a tight-fitting mask on for an additional five days when around others.
Notify close contacts
Please help prevent the spread of the virus by following these simple steps. Do this as soon as possible after your positive diagnosis. We need your help to notify the greater community.

- Notify your professors so you can make arrangements for remote learning.
- Notify your supervisor if you are a student employee.
- Think about your close contacts for the 48 hours BEFORE your positive diagnosis.
- Contact ALL of them and refer them to the exposure information below.

What to do if you have been exposed to COVID
If you are a WCSU student (resident or commuter) and have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or have identified as a close contact, please follow these simple steps:
- For you, Day 0 is the day of the last contact with the COVID-19 positive case.
- When on campus, you MUST wear a tight-fitting mask around others for ten days after your previous physical contact with the case.cThis includes your apartment or room, if you are a resident. You do not need to wear a mask when you go to bed.
- You MUST test on Day 6 if still asymptomatic, or earlier if you develop any symptoms.
- You can go back to “normal” on Day 11 if still asymptomatic.

If you engage in ANY activity outside of WCSU, please consult with the appropriate authorities for further directions.
