Description and Application Criteria
WCSU Graduate Assistantships provide on-campus, extracurricular, hands-on learning experiences to graduate students.
Stipends are attached to the Graduate Assistantships commensurate with the level of work required in the program. (Assistantships are not scholarships or work/study appointments).
Requirements for Graduate Assistant positions are:
- Graduate student matriculated in WCSU Psychology Graduate program
- GPA of 3.0 or higher in the program.
- Graduate student registered in the current semester
Graduate Assistants may not be employed by any other employment category of the University.
The Psychology Graduate Assistant position is full-time and requires up to (but not exceeding) 20 hours of work per week for the semester.
Assistant Description and Responsibilities/Learning Outcomes
(M.S. in Addiction Studies)
The Graduate Assistant has 3 main roles:
- Assistant to the Program Director
- Will meet regularly with the Graduate Coordinator to gain professional development skills: including prioritizing projects, time management, and community outreach in the substance misuse treatment and prevention area.
- The position will require a presence in the Psychology Graduate Office for 10-15 hours per week, and some additional hours as needed in the community (not to exceed 20 total hours a week).
- Communication Manager for the M.S. in Addiction Studies
- Develop and implement social media skills in the addictions field. The student will develop and maintain the social media program for the M.S. in Addiction Studies. The student will receive supervision while researching best practices in social media and implementing effective community engagement programs. This includes assisting in the development and maintenance of the M.S. in Addiction Studies program website and receiving training in social media technology platforms.
- Program Liaison to the Graduate Students
- The assistant will receive training in supervision skills, in order to be available to assist graduate students in the Psychology program with their needs, and be able to identify appropriate resources for: academic support, Masters Project protocols advisement, internship placement protocols, general program navigation – registration, financial aid, schedules. The assistant will coordinate program resources for Masters Project implementation.
Stipend
This position is a level IV stipend: $4,800 per semester. It requires some oversight by the Graduate Coordinator and extensive independent work.
In addition to the stipend, full-time graduate students (enrolled in 9 credits or more per semester) have some fees waived.
