2015 WCSU programs to celebrate International Education Week
DANBURY, CONN. — Western Connecticut State University will present a diverse array of programs covering themes ranging from immigration law and women’s issues to international business and study-abroad opportunities during the WCSU celebration of International Education Week from Oct. 26 through 29, 2015.
The International Education Week events, sponsored by the Western International Center, will offer a series of lectures and forums at the Campus Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Lectures on Oct. 27 and 28 will be in the Campus Center North Ballroom, and the Oct. 29 forum will be in the South Ballroom. Admission to all events will be free and the public is invited to attend. Featured programs will include:
• “A Practicing Immigration Attorney’s Perspective on Current Immigration Issues and Laws,” Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 11:50 a.m. Immigration attorney Renee Redman will discuss recent developments and current issues in immigration law during a forum facilitated by Professor of Music Dr. Marjorie Callaghan.
• “The United Nations Working Group on Girls,” Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6:30 p.m. Beth Adamson, who serves as director of the U.N. Working Group on Girls, will address issues confronting women and girls from an international perspective, with Callaghan facilitating the discussion.
• “International Business and Culture,” Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 11:30 a.m. Dawn Reshen-Doty, president of Benay Enterprises, will provide insights into the international business environment during a presentation facilitated by Professor of Marketing Dr. Ben Oumlil.
• “Living and Studying Abroad, Cultural Experiences and Music,” Thursday, Oct. 29, at 4 p.m. Western students Sebastian Angel, Clint Cave, Danielle Core, Geordy Hernandez and Iryna Sanchez will offer their personal perspectives on academic and cultural aspects of their study programs abroad in a forum moderated by Callaghan and Oumlil.
Other activities scheduled as part of the WCSU International Education Week celebration will include an information table for the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), staffed from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Campus Center lobby on the Westside campus and on Oct. 29 at the Student Center lobby on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Visitors to the lobby of the Campus Center on the Westside campus will have the opportunity from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 28 to have their names translated into Chinese and Hindi by WCSU Professor of Social Sciences Dr. Zuohong Pan and Assistant Professor of Justice and Law Administration Dr. Divya Sharma. The events will be free and open to the public.
