WCSU 2016 -Connecticut-PeaceJam-Slam

DANBURY, CONN. Western Connecticut State University will host the Connecticut PeaceJam Slam from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Warner Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The PeaceJam Slam is for high school students from across Connecticut and Massachusetts who will participate in workshops and family groups where they will discuss important issues in today’s society.

The event will be hosted by WCSU’s Kathwari Honors program, led by Professor of Political Science Dr. Chris Kukk. For years the Honors Program has focused on bringing compassion and creativity to the university community and surrounding area. This event will help spread the message to high school students

“This event takes all the thinkers and doers, all of them are Noble Peace Prize winners, and embodies the honors ideas,” Kukk said. “To be successful, you have to do and not just think; we have a lot of thinkers in our world but very few doers and teaching this to high school students will be so great.”

Kukk will be the keynote speaker at the slam.

“The best part of this, the part I will get a kick out of, is watching our students mentor the high schoolers,” Kukk added. “It will be the generation helping itself, and I think that’s the most important part.”

Registration for this event is $25 per person and is open until Saturday, April 15. (Please disregard the deadline listed on the website.) Forms and instructions can be found at: http://peacejam.org/events/Connecticut-PeaceJam-Slam-647.aspx
