opens in a new windowJustin Matley, founder of Black Oak Sound, is an award-winning Post Sound / Re-Recording Mixer, Sound Designer, and Music Director & Supervisor who works on a plethora of television, film, radio, podcast, internet, and experiential-based projects for the broadcast, news, motion picture, and advertising industries. Along with individual accolades and nominations, his projects have won dozens of awards, including Academy, BAFTA, Emmy, Cannes Lion, Edward R. Murrow, ANDY, and Promax awards, and are featured across international festivals, broadcast networks, and digital media worldwide. A two decade industry veteran, Justin takes pride in being an excellent problem solver, organized team player, and efficient creative executor.
Justin doubles as a Producer and Creative Consultant, running his own production collective, opens in a new windowMatley Productions, focused on diverse animated, VFX, and live action projects with a backbone in education and social causes. He is also adjunct faculty at the opens in a new windowUniversity of Connecticut, Department of Digital Media and Design, where he teaches coursework in sound technology, and is a News and Documentary Emmy voter.
Justin is a hackneyed musician from an early age; a classically trained percussionist and chronic noodler on other instruments. Serving his community, Justin is on the Board of Directors of local news website, opens in a new windowNancy on Norwalk; is the Founder of the local education organization, the opens in a new windowNorwalk Parents Initiative; is on the Leadership Committee for the opens in a new windowNorwalk Film Festival; and is on the Community Advisory Council for the opens in a new windowSchool+State Finance Project. He’s an avid Red Sox fan, skier, mediocre tequila drinker, amateur gardener, and lover of most things outdoors. Above all, his most important roles are as a husband and father to two amazing girls.
