Violinist Belinda Whitney has a versatile career as a free-lance musician in the New York City area spanning a
wide variety of musical genres. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Temple University and a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School under renowned violin teacher Ivan Galamian. Other teachers included David Nadien, Linda Cerone, and Helen Kwalwasser.
Ms. Whitney was a finalist in the Carnegie Hall International American Music Competition and the Perrenoud Foundation (Vienna) International Violin Competition, and a prize winner in the Savannah Symphony National Violin Competition. She served as concertmaster of the Savannah Symphony, Main Line Symphony, and Lower Merion Symphony. Ms. Whitney is currently concertmaster of the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra and a member of the New York Pops.
Ms. Whitney played in numerous Broadway musicals, serving as concertmaster of My Fair Lady, Porgy and Bess, The King and I, South Pacific, Beauty and the Beast, City of Angels, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and others. She has worked with artists as diverse as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Luciano Pavarotti, Barbra Streisand, and Beyonce. She has had an extensive recording career in NYC, playing for over 70 films, plus numerous recordings, jingles and television shows.
Ms. Whitney can be heard weekly in the violin tango duet for television’s Masterpiece Theater Mystery! theme music.
