The Math Emporium in HI 122/123 is where WCSU developmental math courses are taught.

These courses are:

  • MAT 098 – Beginning Algebra – 0 credits (3 load credits with no academic credit)

This course is held in the fall semester only for those who place into 100P, but need to take their time to learn more fully the basic skills and understanding.  Passing this course prepares you to take MAT 100, preferably the following semester.

  • MAT 100 – Intermediate Algebra – 3 credits
  • MAT 100P – Intermediate Algebra Plus (includes 098 essential topics and all of the 100 content – taken in one semester) – 4 credits

These courses use a dynamic online learning platform called ALEKS.  It presents each student with a learning path through topics chosen to fit each student’s level of understanding and progress as their knowledge grows.

The Math Emporium is also open generous hours as a drop-in help center, exclusively for students enrolled in the three courses listed above.  The teaching assistants for the classes are also available other times as this computer lab is open six days a week.  See below under ‘Schedule for Classes and Teaching Assistants’ to find out when each TA is available to help you

The open hours for the Fall 2022 semester are as follows:

Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 am to 7 pm
Tuesday from 11 am to 7 pm
Friday from 8 am to 5 pm
Sunday from 2 pm to 8 pm

Here is a link to the Math Emporium channel on WCSU’s MediaSpace. Here you will find all of the instructional videos for students as alternatives to those in the ALEKS program.  These were recorded here at WCSU by the coordinator and some of the Math Department Faculty.  They are also linked to each topic found the Resources icon if it is there at the top of the column of icons on the left.  If a video is assigned to that topic, this is the icon:

It will take you to the school’s media website, so don’t worry about the message that you are leaving ALEKS.  Everything has been saved so when you return to ALEKS to continue your work, it will take you back to where you were when you left.

Schedules for Topic and Objective goals and Exams are available on the course Blackboard page.  They are the last two pages of the syllabus.

Each exam must be taken on the day it is listed in the following and cannot be made-up.
