Dr. Brian Clements

Director

Brian Clements, Ph.D, is Director of the Kathwari Honors Program and Professor of Creative and Professional Writing. He is author or editor of over a dozen collections of poetry, including, most recently, A Book of Common Rituals (Quale Press) and the New York Times New & Noteworthy anthology Bullets into Bells: Poets & Citizens Respond to Gun Violence (Beacon Press). His 200-day project Every Atom: Reflections on Whitman at 200 collected commentaries from 200 writers at North American Review. He was the founding Coordinator of WCSU’s MFA in Creative and Professional Writing.

Caitlin Kennedy

Assistant Director

Caitlin Kennedy joined as the Assistant Director of the Kathwari Honors Program in 2023. Caitlin’s undergraduate studies were completed here at Western Connecticut State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Psychology. After graduating from WCSU in 2012, she joined the U.S. Peace Corps, where she lived and served as an English Education volunteer in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Upon her return to the U.S., she earned her Master’s degree in Global Development & Peace from the University of Bridgeport. Caitlin joins the Kathwari Honors Program with over 10 years of higher education program management experience with her most recent roles in international education at the University of Bridgeport and the Associate Director of the Study Abroad Office at Trinity College. “I am thrilled to be back here at WestConn. It feels like coming home.” Caitlin’s favorite things in the world are being outside and exploring with her husband, daughter and dogs, traveling to new places, photography and coffee.
