In this hands-on class, students will explore and engage in in-depth research on local histories of labor, immigration, and power. The class explores the “Danbury Hatters Case,” a 1908 Supreme Court case that had local, state, and national political significance. Students will conduct original research in local archives concerning the Hatters Case. Throughout the semester the hatting industry will serve as a linchpin in a study of how Danbury remembers and presents its past.
