Die Fledermaus or The Revenge of the Bat
As payback for a practical joke played on him, Dr. Falke has orchestrated an evening “charade” at the expense of the perpetrator, his friend Gabriel Eisenstein. The event takes place in Vienna on New Year’s Eve, during a masquerade party hosted by the young Russian Prince Orlofsky, and involves a host of characters including his wife, Rosalinda, one of her early suitors, Alfred, as well as her maid, Adele. In the end, they all land in jail, where the prank is finally revealed.
