Guest Speakers: Zulma Tobar, long-time community organizer, working with 30+ migrant sending rural communities in El Salvador. She works on issues of education, environmental justice, advocacy, and was raised by a single mother who survived the massacre in Guadalupe, Suchitoto in 1983. Kelly Calles is co-coordinator of US/El Salvador Sister Cities with Zulma. She specializes in human rights, governance and democracy. She has worked with civil society organizations, participated in several electoral observation volunteer in Central and South America, and participated in international youth forums OAS programs. Maren Walsh is a grassroots organizer in El Salvador & Mexico. She has worked extensively with migrant farmworkers in Mexico, conducted research on healthcare for migrant women, and also works at a migrant shelter in Tapachula, Mexico, where she provides accompaniment to migrants arriving at Mexico’s southern border.
