DOCUMENTARY AND GUEST SPEAKER: Join The Center for Empowerment and Education and the Recreation Department for a documentary showing of Alyssiah Wiley’s story with honorable guest speaker Corrinna Martin at 7 p.m. in the Westside Campus Center Ballroom.
Trigger warning: discussions of dating violence and intimate partner homicide. Counselors will be available for support.
Alyssiah Wiley was a sophomore at Eastern Connecticut State University. Her goal was to be a psychiatrist because she loved helping people, giving advice and giving back to her community. In early 2013, Alyssiah was brutally murdered by her abusive boyfriend. Her mother, Corrinna Martin, says she “was thrust into the fight for awareness and activism.” She began M.O.V.E. Inc to educate and advocate to end domestic violence. We will show a docuseries episode about Alyssiah Wiley’s story, and Corrinna Martin will be our honorable guest speaker.
