Fire Prevention & Campus Safety

Western Connecticut State University takes great pride in its Fire Safety Record. There have never been any injuries on any campus building due to fire or smoke.

All University buildings are equipped with state of the art fire alarm systems. All alarms are automatically reported to the University Police Department which in turn, dispatch the city of Danbury Fire Department. Residence Hall Fire Safety is of paramount concern to the University and to address this issue the University has invested heavily in life safety systems at all Residence Halls. All Residence Halls are equipped with automatic sprinkler systems, intelligent smoke detection and announcement systems, and where appropriate, hand held fire extinguishers.

This investment in infrastructure coupled with evacuation drills and training, ensures that our residents are in the safest possible buildings.

Other Fire Safety initiatives include room safety inspections by the Residence Life department, Building Inspection by the University Environmental Health and Safety Team, and independent annual inspections from the State Fire Marshal's office.
