Professional Development

Students are encouraged to join professional organizations and attend meetings, webinars, trainings, annual conferences, and join committees, roundtables, etc. as a means of networking, learning about potential fieldwork sites, and learning about the counseling profession from professional peers. The Counselor Education Program brings in guest speakers to specific classes, and regularly invites others to attend, including students from the School of Social Work, MS Addiction Studies and Psychology, and School of Nursing-Psychiatric APRNs. Past speakers have covered topics such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Trauma-informed Counseling in Schools, EMDR, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and SBIRT training, QPR training, and Evidence-based Practices from the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).
