Praxis Exam Prep
The Praxis® tests measure the knowledge and skills you need to prepare for the classroom. Whether you are entering a teacher preparation program or seeking your certification, these tests will help you on your journey to become a qualified educator.
Step 1: The Basics
- Start here and create an account at ETS.
- Many students use the Norwalk facility to test. The zip code is 06851 and the location is on Westport Avenue, just beyond Stew Leonard’s.
- Some test from home. You will need to download an add-on called ProctorU.
- Be sure to follow the directions and use a PC. Many new times are offered for your convenience.
- Don’t forget to refer to your handbook timeline! You must take Praxis by a certain point.
Step 2: Start Planning and Staying Calm
- Take great notes in class. Many content areas covered will appear on your tests.
- There are free materials for you to study; many PDF guides and checklists of content are available to you on the ETS.org website
- Consider creating a study plan. Students typically study 2-4 times per week, for 6-12 weeks, depending on the content review needed.
- Use the Pomodoro technique; study in 25 minutes intervals. It is a medical school technique that is very effective. The WCSU Business School uses it too!
- Relax using Theta waves as you study. Hearing these can maximize your memory and minimize your stress level.
Step 3: Gather Resources and Study!
- Go to the Haas Library and visit the Front Desk. There you will find a multitude of books. Check out our online books too!
- Visit Quizlet.com or download the app on your phone. Search “WCSU” and a list of different sets will appear. Here is an example for Secondary Math flash cards
- Utilize Khan Academy. Here is an example of (they are pretty good for Secondary too!)
- Consider emailing for a code. We have some for free sample tests on ExamEdge.
- We also have a Blackboard Praxis Prep! It is evolving and growing. Email Dr. Moore to have your email added for access.
- Once you have made a firm study plan and explore your resources, you should feel secure to take your exam. Feel free to reach out to Zoom or meet if you are feeling the need for more clarity.
- Relax when you study, and know that you are going to do well. WCSU has one of the top passing rates in the state!
