Congratulations to Seku-Baye Kariamu and Jason Stevens for being recognized in the DIMA category. The top prize was awarded to Emily Rovillo for her project titled Theirs Vanity.

DIMA Visiting Artist Series: Joyce Yu-Jean Lee

Joyce Yu-Jean Lee appeared as part of the DIMA Visiting Artist Series in March, 2020. Joyce is a visual artist working with video, digital photography and interactive installation. Her artwork examines how mass media and culture shapes notions of truth and understanding of the “other.” Her project about Internet censorship, FIREWALL,​ garnered backlash from Chinese state authorities in 2016​ ​and​ was presented at Lincoln Center in NYC, the Oslo Freedom Forum in Norway​, and Center for Community Cultural Development – Green Wave Art in Hong Kong. Joyce’s​ artwork has exhibited internationally and been written about in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Huffington Post, Hyperallergic and ArtCritical. Zine Day

Zine Day took place on February 4th, 2020. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Haas Library and Julie Hunter. During the event, students were invited to read, make or learn how to make a zine. Over 50 students participated in the hands on event. The Wrong Biennale: Polychromal

The Wrong Biennale is an international digital art festival that began on November 1, 2019. The DIMA program was represented in an exhibition titled Polychromal. The show featured the digital works of 16 student artists, including Caitlyn Neeson, Jason Stevens, Emily Rovillo, Sam Saturne, Kiarsha Mannix, Seku-Baye Kariamu, Jonathan Wencek, Spencer Shaw, Hannah Barbiero, Nydianna Torres, Chris Rurka, Savannah Lewis, Jack Ruppert, Max Cano, Darcy D’Amato, and Caitlin Redmond. An opening reception was hosted on November 19th, 2020.

 

 


DIMA On Location: Digital Media CT 2019 Summit

On September 20th, DIMA students attended the DMCT 2019 Summit. DMCT is a statewide education initiative to support a talent pipeline that recognizes Connecticut’s expertise in digital media. Working in partnership with the CT Office of Film, Television, and Digital Media, the University of Connecticut, and other CT institutions of higher education, DMCT serves as a platform that connects students to the media arts industry. DIMA and Media Arts students exhibited multiple works in the 2019 DIMA Exhibit and the 5th Annual Media Arts Film Festival. DIMA On Location: Whitney Museum of American Art

In April 2018, DIMA students DIMA and Media Arts students took a day trip to the Whitney Museum of American Art. Students received a tour of the exhibition titled Programmed: Rules, Codes, and Choreographies in Art, 1965-2018. The tour was guided by the exhibition curator, Christiane Paul.


DIMA Visiting Artist Series: Illya Szilak

Interactive Storyteller Illya Szilak appeared as part of the DIMA Visiting Artist Series in October, 2018. Illya discussed her interactive installation and virtual reality experience, Queerskins: A Love Story. The project is an LGBTQ centered drama that combines cutting-edge technology with intimate, lyrical storytelling. Queerskins: A Love Story has appeared at multiple festivals, including the 2018 Tribeca and LA Film Festivals.

Commencement, 2018

The DIMA program would like to pay tribute to our first graduate, Mirza Tahirovic! Congratulations to Mirza and his entire family. Mirza was a student in the DIMA/Computer Science Option. 4th Annual Media Arts Film Festival

DIMA and Media Arts students exhibited multiple works at the 4th Annual Media Arts Film Festival. Congratulations to Cris Fitzgerald, Conner Haskell, and Sara DeLucia for being selected to the DIMA category. The top prize was awarded to Sean Nuremberg for his 360-video project titled The Natural World.

DIMA 360/VR Screening

In December, 2017, the DIMA program hosted a 360/VR screening. Multiple 360-video projects from DIMA 200 were screened. The interactive story The Hunt was also premiered at the event.

DIMA Visiting Artist Series: Sebastian Bardin-Greenberg, aka SibaGiba

Hip Hop Artist and Curator Sebastian Bardin-Greenberg, aka SibaGiba appeared as part of the DIMA Visting Artist series in November 2017. Siba discussed his curatorial exhibition Hip Hop, Un Age d’Or (Hip Hop, A Golden Age). The exhibition was on display at the Musée d’art Contemporain in Marseille, France. In addition, Siba spoke about his career as a Hip Hop artist.

DIMA Visiting Artist Series: Berto Colón

Actor Berto Colón (César on Orange is the New Black, Javier in HBO’s Show Me a Hero) was the inaugural speaker at the DIMA Visiting Artist Series. Berto appeared on the WCSU campus in April, 2017. During the presentation he discussed the challenges associated with the acting profession and shared stories from his on-set experiences.
