Art Option
DIMA ART OPTION
The DIMA Art Option is an excellent choice for students who would like to acquire professional skills in imaging software, photography, and digital imaging. The course of study prepares students for careers in digital art, web design, photo journalism, advertising, and digital photography. The option requires the completion of 15 semester hours with a minimum grade of “C” or higher.
ART/DIMA 210, Fundamentals of Imaging Software I, 3 SH
This course introduces the basic principles and processes of imaging software. The majority of work is computer based. We will be using Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Acrobat DC, Adobe Type fonts, Adobe Library, as well as other popular file sharing programs (for example, Dropbox). This class will introduce the basics of imaging software, including the user interface, working with layers, color, type, tools, filters, masks, and more. This course will provide step-by-step instructions as well as in-depth explanations of the basic program features, covering how to create images from photographs, simple shapes and layers, and type. Prerequisite: ART 117.

ART/DIMA 224, Fundamentals of Imaging Software II, 3 SH
This course introduces intermediate to advanced principles and processes of imaging software. The majority of work is computer based. We will be using Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat DC, Adobe Type fonts, Adobe Library, as well as other popular file sharing programs (for example, Dropbox). This course will provide step-by-step instructions as well as in-depth explanations of the intermediate to advanced program features including masking, retouching, blend modes, selections, channels and mixers. You will learn how to prepare digital files for delivery for various print and screen uses. To be offered every spring semester. Prerequisites: ART 210 Minimum Grade of D- or ART/DIMA 210 Minimum Grade of D-

ART 342, Digital Imaging and Production, 3 SH
Students will expand upon their digital skills and knowledge using software tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign as digital design and production tools. Students will learn through lectures, demonstrations, exercises and real-world projects and explore the basic and most useful tools in Illustrator and InDesign. Students will learn how to create digital graphics, typographic effects and solve design problems in print and web environments. This course will provide step-by-step instructions as well as explanations of the basic program features. Prerequisite: ART/DIMA 210 or ART 304.

ART 346, Color Photography I, 3 SH
This course explores the technical and aesthetic use of color in photography as a creative tool. Topics covered include color theory, perception and the history of color photographic processes. Students are required to have their own DSLR camera. Fall semester. Prerequisite: ART 207 and ART 216.
OR
ART 356, Advanced Photographic Methods, 3 SH
In the computerized field of graphics and the Web, photography has become an important design component. This course will help students develop skills to create computer-enhanced images. Students will also learn basic color correction and retouching; the course will culminate in the creation of multi-image montages. Every third semester. Prerequisite: ART 207.

ART 352, Digital Production: Web Development, 3 SH
This course is an introduction to web development and production software. Students will develop skill sets that will allow them to utilize the myriad tools and functions available within the application environment. Emphasis is on the process of planning, development, and implementation of web sites.
