All About Internships

The Ancell School of Business strongly encourages students to pursue internships and other experiential learning opportunities to help guide them to a personally satisfying career placement and to ensure that they will graduate with important professional experience.

Internships are an excellent way to gain “real world” experience in your chosen career or major and they are the number one way companies hire new staff!  For more information please contact the Career Success Center located in the Westside Campus Student Center, level 3, or log into your Handshake account, available through the Career Success Center.

“According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE): The starting salary for graduates that had paid interns is over $14,000 more than graduates without a paid internship.#  On average, it takes interns 1.9 months to attain their first job compared to the 4.34 months for non-interns.”

The top ten reasons to complete an internship:

  • To put the lessons you’ve learned into action in the workplace
  • To practice the essential skills of collaboration, communication and critical thinking in a real world setting
  • To establish relationships with mentors,
  • To reap new experience and expertise
  • To meet and network with professionals
  • To demonstrate your abilities to potential employers
  • To try out a company to see if they are a good fit
  • To get a feel for your chosen career
  • To give a company the opportunity to see how you fit in with their corporate culture.
  • To increase your chances of getting a job because internships are the number one way companies hire new staff
