Dr. Monica Perry Sousa ’04, ’10, ’16
Dr. Monica Sousa has been involved with Western Connecticut State University for many years. She graduated from the nursing program in 2004 and worked as a Registered Nurse at Danbury Hospital on the cardiac/telemetry unit and the Cardiac Cath Recovery Room for many years.
In 2005, Lois Crucitti ’71, ’98, and Monica co-founded the Alumni Nursing Society, which was the first ever branch of the WCSU Alumni Association. The Alumni Nursing Society has supported the WCSU Alumni Association mission. The Alumni Nursing Society hosts an annual spring event to bring alumni back to campus and welcome the graduating class into the Society.
Monica returned to WCSU as a student and completed her Master’s degree in the Clinical Nurse Specialist track in 2010. Shortly after she was hired as a nursing professor. She teaches in the undergraduate and graduate nursing program. She worked as a Risk Manager and Patient Advocate at New Milford Hospital as well as a Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Cardiovascular Service Line at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. In 2016 Monica was the first student to graduate from the doctoral nursing program here at WCSU. She has been a member of the WCSU Alumni Board of Directors since 2005 and is on the Student Relations Committee and the Homecoming Committee.
