Student life is a collective effort at Western Connecticut State University.  Students with a common bond may seek to form a student organization.  The Student Government Association has the responsibility to provide financial assistance to the group if it meets the SGA's funding criteria.  The Student Life/Student Activities Office provides assistance with event organization and execution, leadership development and group dynamics to meet the needs of the organization.

General Objectives of the Student Life/Student Activities Office

  • To provide a well balanced, meaningful and diversified program of cultural, intellectual, and social experiences responsive to the needs and desires of the students.
  • To provide an opportunity for student development thorough participation in the educational mission of Western Connecticut State University.
  • To provide for the total integration of student sponsored events with the educational program of the University.
  • To assist in the formation and recognition of new student organizations.
  • To annually register all student organizations.

To assist and advise student organizations:

  • How to plan, organize, supervise and evaluate their functions
  • Set their goals and objectives
  • Practice sound budgetary procedures
  • Operate according to the rules and regulations established by various University organizations, including the Student Government Association, the Cashier's Office and the Student Life/Student Activities Office.
  • To maintain effective communication with all segments of the University community.
  • To provide professional assistance to student organizations for programming and/or problem solving.
  • To provide leadership development programs which enhance the effectiveness of student leaders.
  • To assist all student organizations with fiscal management.
  • To provide services such as scheduling facilities and a master calendar of Student Life/Student Activities .
  • Conduct an orientation program for student organization officers and advisors.
  • Facilitate communication among student organizations, the Student Government Association and the administration.
  • Facilitate the channeling of student concerns, recommendations, and actions to appropriate individuals and departments.
