Alpha Delta Pi was founded in 1851 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia. We hold the distinction of being the first secret society in the world for college women. The original name for the sorority was the "Adelphean Society." Adelphean is derived from the Greek word meaning "sister." The name changed to Alpha Delta Phi and became a national organization in 1905 and then to Alpha Delta Pi in 1913. The basic principles and ritual are much the same as those developed by our founders in 1851. Our Western Connecticut State University Chapter started out as a local sorority called Lambda Gamma Chi on April 20, 1988. One year later on May 14, 1989, we became a colony of Alpha Delta Pi. Finally on February 3, 1990 we were installed as the Eta Omicron Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi. Alpha Delta Pi is committed to sisterhood, high academic standards, and social responsibility. Our sisters pride themselves on being well-rounded individuals with a motivation to achieve greatness in school and in the community. Being the first sorority ever created, we have a strong history of tradition and we truly live up to the words: First. Finest. Forever. With the diversity of our members, and our strong emphasis on sisterhood and fun, we are united in our sincere love for each other and in our genuine love for Alpha Delta Pi that will last a lifetime.
