Archaeology at WestConn
Dr. Laurie Weinstein, with the help of Dr. Bethany Morrison and Dr. Cosimo Sgarlata, runs the archaeology program at WestConn. Students are introduced to the broad field of archaeology, including courses in field methods and laboratory analysis, world prehistory, New England prehistory and Southwest prehistory. The Summer Field School runs almost every summer. We test and excavate sites throughout western Connecticut through our numerous affiliations with the Office of State Archaeology , the Dept.of Economic & Community Development, the Department of Environmental Protection, and local municipalities, museums and historical societies.
Over the years, we have presented some of the fruits of our summer field school labor at the Institute for American Indian Studies, in Washington, CT. Dr. Weinstein serves as guest curator of our finds and frequently lectures at the Museum.
