Minutes from October 9, 2017 at 3:00 pm in Warner Hall 315

Present: Paul Echeverria, Jessica Eckstein, Rondall Khoo, Rotua Lumbantobing, Helena Prieto, Forest Robertson, Çiğdem Üsekes.

Visitors: Pat Boily, Howell Williams.

Old Business:

  1. September meeting minutes were approved unanimously (ÇÜ/JE) with corrections:
    1. Correction to the spelling of Çiğdem’s name.
    2. Item 2c, ART/DIMA 2XY Fundamentals of Imaging Software 2 (CD1617199), needed revisions and hence was rejected in the system (so it can be resubmitted).

New Business:

  1. Proposal from Biology and Environmental Sciences:
    New course BIO 2xx, Scientific Inquiry in the field for Biology majors. Comments on structure of the proposal and the description of the Scientific Inquiry competency. Details on textbook and grading policy should not be included in the proposal. Proposal was approved unanimously pending these corrections (RK/JE).
  2. Proposals from Digital Interactive Media Arts:
    1. DIMA addition of art option (CD 1718025): there was no Arts Dept. approval. Proposal was approved unanimously pending the inclusion of the approval (JE/FR).
    2. ART/DIMA 2XX (CD1718028) & ART/DIMA 2XY (CD1718027): both needed to be course outline, not syllabus. Revisions are necessary on various items in both
    3. proposals. Motion to vote electronically on revised proposals later was approved unanimously (RK/ÇÜ).
  3. Proposal from Social Sciences:
    1. ANT 229 (CD1718012), ANT/SOC major changes (CD1718017), and Social Sciences major changes (CD1718018) were tabled (HP/ÇÜ, unanimous).
    2. Adding competencies for PS 100 (CD1718020), PS 102 (CD1718021), PS 104 (CD1718022): course outlines need to be revised, especially for PS 100 & 102 to
    3. recognize the need to update them to keep current. Description for Intercultural competency for PS 100 and PS 104 needs to be updated. Also, the Oral Communication competency did not seem to be a good fit. It was suggested to change it to Critical Thinking competency. Proposals were rejected (RK/HP, unanimous). They will be resubmitted with the suggested revisions.

Meeting was adjourned at 4:20 pm.

Addendum:
Revised proposals for CD1718028 and CD1718027 proposals (see item 2 above) were approved unanimously via electronic voting.
