Ives Concert Park closes out July with tribute concert, ballet performance

DANBURY, CONN. — It’s been a month full of exciting events at Ives Concert Park on the Western Connecticut State University Westside campus, and the final weekend of July continues the momentum with tributes to both music and dance at the venue located at 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.

Saturday, July 29, 2017, will feature the first “Mock Stock” tribute concert, featuring tribute bands playing the songs of Aersosmith, AC/DC, Santana, The Who, Van Halen and Led Zeppelin. It’s also a 40th birthday bash in celebration of i95’s 40th anniversary. Gates will open at noon, with performances scheduled as follows: Draw the Line at 12:30 p.m., Van Hagar at 2 p.m., Sacred Fire at 3:20 p.m., Back in Black at 4:40 p.m., Who Are You at 6:20 p.m. and Kasmir at 8 p.m..)  Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the gate. On Sunday, July 30, 2017, dance will be the featured performance medium for the Newtown Savings Bank Fine Arts and Family Series at Ives. At 6 p.m., there will be a free ballroom dance class. No experience necessary (bring comfortable dancing shoes or sneakers). At 7:30 p.m., Connecticut Ballet’s Summer Dance Caravan will celebrate the organization’s 35th anniversary with a varied program including Michel Fokine’s historic one-act ballet, “Les Sylphides”; Lila York’s contemporary ballet, “Strays,” set to Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto; and “Steam Heat: The Best of Bob Fosse,” featuring a medley of Fosse hits from “Sweet Charity,” “Pippin,” “Dancing on Broadway” and “Chicago. The Fosse finale, staged by Broadway veteran Ricci Adan, will serve as a rousing finish to the 35th anniversary performance. General Admission tickets are $10; children 12 and under are $5. No food, beverages or coolers are allowed in the park for these events. Food, soft drinks, water, beer and wine are available for purchase. All bags will be checked at the front gate.
