American Sojourners

HON 298 – Dr. Jennifer N. Duffy

Modes of Inquiry: Textual Analysis, Historical, Social and Cultural Analysis

Course Description:

Many Americans have come to understand the United States and its history through the experience of its immigrants.  Immigration to the U.S. often is told as a narrative of incorporation and assimilation.  By examining the observations of sojourners and travelers to the United States over two centuries, this interdisciplinary course explores counter-narratives about U.S. development and its situation in the world.
