Certification Examinations

A student may wish to sit for one of the primary certification exams: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). Information for examinations and licensing or certification can be found at the addresses below:

CFE: https://www.acfe.com/cfe-credential/how-to-earn-your-cfe-credential

Each certification/certificate has specific work experience requirements. The Ancell Financial Accounting option graduates will be eligible to take the CPA exam in Connecticut but must complete 150 college credits in total (At WCSU or elsewhere) to receive the certificate. Managerial option students may also need additional accounting credits.

Most students interested in satisfying the 150-hour requirement choose to double-major or complete one or more minors. Another good option is to earn a master’s degree in business (MBA), which can typically be completed in a fifth year. Contact the accounting chair to inquire about other methods of satisfying the 150–hour requirement.
