Welcome to the School of Arts and Sciences at Western Connecticut State University. On this site, I've tried to provide you with helpful resources, information about some of the outstanding work being done by our students and faculty, and answers to some frequently asked questions. But don't let the website be your last stop. Please feel free to contact me directly by email, phone, or by appointment.  At Western, we are committed to knowing our students and helping them succeed.

News & Announcements

Celebrate Constitution Day!  On Wednesday, September 17, at 6:00 pm in Science Building 125, Dr. Robert J. Hume, Associate Professor of Political Science at Fordham University, will deliver the lecture “Our Many American Constitutions: Same-Sex Marriage and the Struggle for Social Reform.” In his lecture, Dr. Hume will discuss the opportunities and pitfalls of seeking social reform in the states. Drawing upon evidence and insights from his new book on same-sex marriage policy (Courthouse Democracy and Minority Rights: Same-Sex Marriage in the States, Oxford UP), Dr. Hume will show that some state constitutions offer substantially better venues for the expansion of our rights than the U.S. Constitution, while other states offer fewer opportunities. The lecture is free, and the public is invited.
