MFA Creative & Professional Writing

Poor Yorick Literary Journal is an online publication of the Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative and Professional Writing at Western Connecticut State University. Poor Yorick is a journal about rediscovering the past. Historically, this has meant the stories tied to lost objects. However, it can also mean memories, relationships, traumas, cultures, and ghosts (both literal and figurative). Finding the lost, rekindling old sparks, illuminating the shadows—Poor Yorick celebrates the joy, fear, hardship, and wonder of being human.

The journal is run entirely by current students, with the MFA Program Coordinator serving as an advisor. The Editor-in-Chief position is a paid graduate assistantship responsible for coordinating all aspects of publishing and marketing the journal. Student volunteers also assist with reading submissions, copy editing, and managing Poor Yorick’s social media channels.
