Western Connecticut State University Announces Implementation of a

Credit Card Convenience Fee

 

 

On April 7, 2011 the Board of Trustees for the Connecticut State University System passed Board Resolution #11-33 concerning FY2011-12 Tuition and Fees.  Included in this resolution is a 2.5% convenience fee on credit card transactions.  Western Connecticut State University will implement this policy change effective October 1, 2011.  Western recognizes that many students and families appreciate the convenience of using a credit card, and, therefore, payment by credit card will remain as a payment option, but one that will now be subject to a non-refundable convenience fee.  

Effective October 1, 2011 the following payment options are available:

  1. ELECTRONIC CHECK – Online payment by eCheck/ACH uses funds directly from a checking or savings account. Payments by eCheck are secure, instantly applied to the account and are processed on WCSU’s behalf through the EZpay eBill/ePayment system without assessment of any additional fees

  2. CREDIT CARD - Discover and MasterCard credit cards will be accepted. Visa credit cards, however, will no longer be accepted, due to Visa’s policies. Credit card payments will be processed on WCSU’s behalf through the EZpay eBill/ePayment service which has been certified compliant with credit card security regulations ensuring continued security for students and authorized users’ financial data. For all credit card transactions WCSU will assess a 2.5% non-refundable convenience fee

Please note:

  • Payment by credit card will no longer be permitted when paying in person, by mail, fax or telephone.  Credit Card payment will only be accepted online.

  • Debit Card transactions, also accepted online only, will be processed as a credit card transaction and therefore subject to the same 2/5% convenience fee.

  • The convenience fee does not apply to credit card purchases made at the bookstore or dining services, which are operated by third-party vendors. The University’s Foundation, which is not bound by the resolution on tuition and fees, will not impose this fee and will continue to accept all major credit cards.

  1. IN-PERSON.  Payments in-person by cash, check or money order can be presented at the Cashier’s Office during regular business hours. While credit card payments will no longer be accepted for in-person payments, computer kiosks are located outside the Cashier’s Office where credit card payments can be made. The non-refundable convenience fee will apply.

  2. BY MAIL. Check and money order payments can be mailed to the following address:
