DAY ONE - Wednesday


9:00 am–9:30 am
: Meet and greet

9:30 am–10:30 am: History and sound of steel pans

10:30 am–12:00 pm: Introduction to technique and tone production for pans; design and scale collections

12:00 pm–1:30 pm: Lunch

1:30 pm–2:00 pm: Lead sheet interpretation; reading melody and harmonies

2:00 pm–3:00 pm: Improvisation development

3:00 pm–3:30 pm: Repertoire: Calypso lead sheets, set 1

3:30 pm–5:00 pm: Rehearsal block I: repertoire and rotation

5:00 pm: Dismissal

 

DAY TWO - Thursday


9:00 am–9:30 am
: Listening session I: steel bands of Trinidad and Tobago

9:30 am–10:00 am: Repertoire: Calypso lead sheets, set 2

10:00 am–12:00 pm: Rehearsal block II: repertoire and rotation

12:00 pm–1:30 pm: Lunch

1:30 pm–2:00 pm: Reading arrangements

2:00 pm–2:30 pm: Repertoire: Arrangements for steel band, concert pieces

2:30 pm–5:00 pm: Rehearsal block III: learning arrangements for specific instruments

5:00 pm: Dismissal

 

DAY THREE - Friday


9:00 am–9:30 am
: Listening session II: steel pan artists

9:30 am–10:30 am: Rehearsal block IV: review lead sheet sets with improvisation

10:30 am–12:00 pm: Rehearsal block (cont.): finalize arrangement performance

12:00 pm–1:30 pm: Lunch

1:30 pm–4:00 pm: Rehearsal block V: dress and final preparations

4:00 pm–5:00 pm: Brief performance by all students

5:00 pm: Dismissal
