Founded in 1994 at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., the NSCS is the only honor society to recognize outstanding academic achievement among first- and second-year college students. Membership is by invitation only and is offered to those freshmen and sophomore students who carry a 3.4 grade point average or higher and rank in the top 20 percent of their college class. With active chapters at more than 220 colleges and universities across the country, including all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, the NSCS has as its goal to honor, inspire and engage. Chapters are involved in service to their individual campuses and communities, as well as in scholastic and social activities.
