Get Certified by the National Weather Service as a Skywarn Weather Spotter.

Finding Our Way NOAA family program, the National Weather Service (NWS,) and the WCSU Weather Center will sponsor Skywarn Spotters Training Program, on September 18, 6pm – 9pm at the West Conn Campus Center Auditorium, WCSU Midtown Campus, 181 White Street, Danbury.

Skywarn Spotters are a critical part of the National Weather Service (NWS) warning process. The NWS depends on Skywarn Spotters and other trained observers to verify warnings based on observations from the ground. Get certified and contribute to this scientific effort by becoming a certified spotter.

Skywarn Spotter Program is a free training that instructs about how to observe and report specific types of clouds that form before severe weather such as hail, high winds or a tornado develops. Safety tips on how to prepare for and respond to flash floods, severe thunderstorms and lightning is included. The two-and-a-half hour class is open to the public, emergency managers, first responders, amateur radio operators, teachers, and students at the 6th-grade level and above. In light of recent weather events,  Finding Our Way NOAA family program, the National Weather Service, the WCSU Weather Center, along with the Sigma Xi chapter, sponsored a Skywarn Spotters Training Program, on September 18, 6pm – 9pm.

Skywarn Spotters are a critical part of the National Weather Service (NWS) warning process. The NWS depends on Skywarn Spotters and other trained observers to verify warnings. People interested in becoming a Skywarn Spotter were encouraged to participate.
