Faculty Biographical Sketches

Carol T. Avery, Department of Nursing

Dr. Carol T. Avery, who is a Full Professor in the Nursing Department, received her undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Bridgeport (BSN), her higher education degrees from Hunter College of the City University of New York (MSN), and Teachers College of Columbia University (Ed.D.). She is Perinatal Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Areas of teaching include undergraduate and graduate courses as well as graduate thesis advisement. Her research through several CSU grants have focused on areas of student nurse clinical practice, graduate nurse competency and the professional life of Dr. Luther Christman who is an internationally recognized leader in the nursing profession. This research formed the basis of a video that she produced exploring the opinions and predictions of Dr. Christman entitled A Conversation with Luther. Past and present leadership positions include the Presidency of Kappa Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society and the Vice Presidency of the American Assembly for Men in Nursing. Her most recent project is a book entitled Quick Look Nursing: Obstetric and Pediatric Pathophysiology (Avery, C.T., et.al.).
