St. Joseph College (CT) edges Western, 140-132


WEST HARTFORD, CT (Nov. 12) — The Western Connecticut State University swimming and diving team dropped its second dual meet of the season when it dropped a 140-132 decision at St. Joseph College Saturday afternoon. The Colonials fall to 0-2 on the season.

Western's sophomore Beth Magin (Brookfield, CT) captured three first-place finishes in the loss. She won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events with times of 26.94 and 57.92, respectively. Magin also won the 200 individual medley, touching the wall at 2:25.88.

Kathie Meerman (Danbury, CT) won the 50-yard backstroke (29.76), the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.87) and the 50-yard butterfly (28.06) events.

Other winners for the Colonials include Jess Jahr (Plainville, CT) in the 1000-yard freestyle (13:08.82), Danielle Leprine (New Fairfield, CT) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.23) and 100-yard breast stroke (1:13.87).

Western opens its home schedule on Saturday, November 19 when it plays host to Mount Holyoke on Saturday, November 19 at noon.
