Four Western student-athletes honored by Little East Conference this week

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA (Oct. 15) —  The players listed below have been named to the Little East Conference Player of the Week roster for the week ending, October 14.

Men's Soccer - Defensive Player of the Week
Horace Chambers (Middletown, Conn.), Junior, Western Connecticut State University

Chambers anchored a Western Connecticut defensive attack that did not allow a goal in two matches this past week. The junior from Middletown, Conn. and his teammates earned shutout victories over John Jay and Little East rival Plymouth State.


Men's Soccer - Rookie of the Week
Phil Dagostino (New Fairfield, Conn.), Freshman, Western Connecticut State University

Dagostino accounted for three points, on a goal and an assist, as Western Connecticut posted a 2-0 mark this past week. The freshman from New Fairfield, Conn. scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help the Colonials edge Little East rival Plymouth State, 1-0. Earlier in the week, he dished out a helper in the win over John Jay.

Women's Soccer - Rookie of the Week
Jessica Choronzy (Clinton, Conn.), Freshman, Western Connecticut State University


Choronzy recorded four points on a goal and two assists to lead Western Connecticut to a 2-0 mark this past week. The freshman from Clinton, Conn. dished out the helper on the game-winning goal against Scranton. Three days later, she scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in the Little East win at Plymouth State.

Women's Volleyball - Defensive Player of the Week
Shirley Rodriguez (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico), Sophomore, Western Connecticut State University

In a 4-0 week for Western Connecticut, Rodriquez averaged 5.54 digs per set and recorded a total of five service aces for the Colonials. The sophomore from Rio Grande reached double digits in digs in each of her matches. She tallied a week-best 29 digs against Little East rival Keene State.
