Visiting Western Connecticut State scored three unanswered goals in the second half to erase at 2-1 deficit and post an impressive 4-2 win over Clark University in non-league women’s soccer action on Tuesday evening.
The Colonials improve to 6-2-1 with the win and have now won four of their last five matches, while Clark slips to 2-6-1, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat.
Ariana D’Aurio (Cheshire, Conn.) put WCSU on the board in the 13th minute when she was left unmarked outside the box and floated a shot into the upper right corner of the goal past an outstretched Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.).
The Cougars answered back in the 31st minute as Charlotte Mays (Melrose, Mass.) connected with Hannah Moriarty (Millbury, Mass.) for her first goal of the season, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
Things picked up quickly in the final 45 minutes as Clark took their first lead of the game when Liz Cumberbatch (Austin, Texas) set up Mays for the go-ahead goal at 50:57.
The Cougar advantage proved to be short-lived however, as the Colonials evened the score with a Kelsey Chacho (Plainville, Conn.) marker in the 56th minute. D’Aurio then put WCSU up for good at 59:39 on her second goal of the night.
Alexandra Moravsky (Sherman, Conn.) added an insurance goal in the 85th minute, upping the Colonial edge to 4-2.
Jaime Trayer (Oakville, Conn.) made three saves to record the win, while Paolini turned away six shots of her own.

WCSU returns to action on Saturday night when they visit Eastern Connecticut. Clark, meanwhile, returns to NEWMAC action with a home contest against the Coast Guard Academy.
