Wesleyan University sweeps Western, 3-0


DANBURY, CT (Sep. 26) —  Wesleyan University, behind a balanced attack up front, swept the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20 at The Feldman Arena on Wednesday night.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was junior outside hitter Kim Farris (Atlanta, GA) who had a game-high 14 kills and tied teammate Monica Leslie (Newton, MA) with match-highs of four blocks.

Kate Centofanti (Cos Cob, CT) followed with 10 kills while Sofia Davila (Encino, CA) led the Wesleyan defense with 22 digs.

Western, now 8-6, had its five-match win streak stopped on Wednesday.

Paxton Thornton, (Sharon, CT) led the Colonials with 12 kills and finished with 10 digs.

Wesleyan, 4-6, received great court leadership from sophomore setter Claire Larson (Chanhassen, MN) as she dished out 35 assists in the win.

Jenny Hogan (Franklin Square, NY) handed out 26 assists for Western.

Nina Wojtkiewicz (Griswold, CT) recorded eight kills and 14 digs on the night, two shy of the Colonials' libero Shirley Rodriguez (Rio Grande, PR) who tallied 16 digs.

Western travels to Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI this Friday and Saturday for the JWU Fall Classic.
