Western defeats Worcester State, 3-0 on Tuesday night


WORCESTER, MA (Oct. 2) —  Victoria Vitale (West Milford, NJ) and Nicole Andreasen (New Fairfield, CT) each scored one goal and assisted on each others goal in the Western Connecticut State University field hockey 3-0 victory at Worcester State University on Tuesday night.

Western, 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the Little East Conference, raced out to a 1-0 lead when Elizabeth Vitale (West Milford, NJ) blasted a shot from the top of the circle with 2:15 remaining in the first half.

Victoria Vitale gave the Colonials a 2-0 advantage when she deposited her fourth goal of the season, off a feed from Andreasen, just 1:49 into the second stanza.

Andreasen then notched her fifth goal of the season four minutes later to put the game out of reach from the Lancers, now 2-8 overall and winless at 0-6 in the LEC.

Western out shot Worcester State, 19-1 on the night.

Courtney Hearn (New Fairfield, CT) made one save for the winners while Rebecca Mullen turned away nine shot attempts for the Lancers.

Western next travels to Bridgewater State University for a meeting with the Bears this Saturday, October 6. Game time is slated for 3:30 pm.
