Ramapo College edges Western Connecticut in overtime, 2-1


DANBURY, CT (Sept. 12) —  Katie Bruno (Middletown, NJ) scored the game-winning goal 5:14 in overtime to lift Ramapo College to a 2-1 victory over Western Connecticut State University in field hockey action on Wednesday night at The WAC.

Shea was set up from a penalty corner by Dana Shea (Middletown, NJ) at the top of the key and quickly blasted the ball into the lower left backboard. It was her fourth goal of the season.

It was Bruno who put the Roadrunners on the scoreboard when she scored her team-leading third goal in the ninth minute of play. She was set up by a nice feed from Samantha Gardner (Frankfort, NJ).

Western's Jenny Cappello (Litchfield, CT) knotted the game at 1-1 with her first collegiate goal with 14:44 remaining in regulation. Cappello finished off a combination of passes from Kim Gigante (Bedford Hills, NY) and Nicole Andreasen (New Fairfield, CT).

Junior cage keeper Courtney Hearn (New Fairfield, CT) made four saves for Western while Rebecca Elliott (Brick, NJ) turned away three shots for the Roadrunners.

Western plays host to Salem State University this Saturday, September 15. Game time is 4 pm.
