Sara LeFevre and Meredith Stuart scored two goals each in WestConn win

DANBURY, CT (Sep 6) — Sophomore forward Sara LeFevre (Goshen, CT) scored two goals and assisted on two others as the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team avenged a season-opening loss with a 7-0 victory over Wheelock College Westside Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
LeFevre gave WestConn, 1-1, a 3-0 lead 4:43 into the second half, then added her second tally of the season in the 61st minute, long after the result was decided.
Junior midfielder Meredith Stuart (Washington, CT) also scored two goals and assisted on another in the win. Stuart scored the game’s first goal, in the 27th minute, and added her second marker of the season with 17 minutes to play.
Jaime Kenealy (Meriden, CT), Melissa Barardi (Brookfield, CT) and Katie Fullman (Sandy Hook, CT) collected the other three goals for WestConn.
Christina Natale (Farmington, CT) made two saves for the Colonials before yielding to freshman net minder Laura Damico (New Milford, CT) for the final 10 minutes.
Meredith Race (Marion, MA) and the Wildcats defense withstood a barrage of shot from the Colonials on the afternoon. Race made 18 saves at WestConn out-shot Wheelock 42-4.
Wheelock drops to 0-2 on the young season.
WestConn hosts New England College on Sunday, September 7 at The WAC. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
