WestConn blanked by Steven Tech, 7-0 in season opener

DANBURY, CT (Sep 3) — The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team opened the 2008 season with a 7-0 victory over Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday night at the Westside Athletic Complex.

Allison Shields (Mahopac, NY) led the Ducks in scoring with a pair of goals.

Four other Stevens Tech player registered a goal and an assist for the winners. Allison Basile (River Edge, NJ), Erin Broderick (East Setauket, NY), Kara Borzillo (Mount Laurel, NJ) and Hillary Paul (Concord, NH) collected three points apiece.

The Ducks, 1-0, led 4-0 at intermission then tacked on a trio of goals in the second half.

Christina Natale (Farmington, CT) made just 11 saves for the Colonials.

Stevens Tech goalies did not have to make a save as the Colonials were held without a shot on the night. WestConn hosts Wheelock College and New England College this Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7 at The WAC. Both games begin at 1 p.m.
