Carl Rivers
Pitching Coach

Carl Rivers enters his fifth season as the Pitching Coach for the Colonials. After anchoring the pitching staff from 2000 to 2003, his familiarity with the program and knowledge of the Little East Conference has been very beneficial.

Rivers graduated cum laude from Western Connecticut in 2003 where he earned a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Psychology. He is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communications Honor Fraternity. He was named Western Connecticut State University’s Male Scholar Athlete in 2002 for excellence in the classroom and on the field.

Rivers, a two-year captain, was the ace in both his junior and senior years. He led the Colonials to their first Little East Conference Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2002. He was named the Little East Conference Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, and received a Little East Conference First Team selection. Rivers also gained third team All-Region honors in 2002 and 2003.

In each of his last three years, Rivers finished second nationally in strikeouts per nine innings. He was named to the Chowan Invitational All Tournament Team during his senior campaign and again helped the Colonials into post-season play by striking out a school-record 100 batters.

Rivers holds multiple single-season records for the Colonials. He is first and second in appearances (20 & 18); first and third in innings pitched (87.2 & 69.2); first, second and fifth in strikeouts (100, 82 & 66); tied for second in wins (5); tied for first in saves (5); and fifth in E.R.A. (2.94). Career-wise, he is currently first in appearances (60), innings pitched (248.2), and strikeouts (276). Rivers is also third in wins (14) and fifth in saves (10) all time at Western Connecticut.

Rivers was twice an All-Berkshire League selection, along with four-time Berkshire League Student Athlete, during his high school years at WAMOGO Regional High School.
