WestConn breaks open and sweeps Union College, 9-7 and 13-8
Zach Dandrea ties NCAA record with two triples in an inning
WINTER HAVEN, FL - (March 22) - The WestConn baseball team broke it four-game slump with a double header sweep of Union College, 9-7 and 13-8 on Sunday afternoon.
In the opener, the Colonials pounded out seven hits and held on despite committing six errors.
Miles Scribner went six and one third innings and captured his first victory of the season. He allowed six hits, struck out seven and allowed seven runs, three of them earned. Dan Baccaro earned the save after shutting the door over registering the final two outs.
Rob Bedard was the hitting star for the Colonials, going two for two with three runs batted in. He laced a single up the middle and drove in what proved to be the game winning runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
Sam McNeil went two for four with an RBI.
In the second game, Zach Dandrea went 3-for-5 with two triples and three RBI. His two triples came in the same inning and ties an NCAA Division III record. Five others have hit two triples in an inning, the most recentby Gabe Neitzel of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2006.
Tim Giuliano earned the victory after coming on in relief in the fourth inning.
WestConn's first nine runs were unearned as Union committed four errors in the contest.
Nick Ross belted a home run and went three for four with four RBI. Zach Dandrea went three for five with a trio of RBIs.
