Police Department

Bicycle Patrol

At present there are nine (9) certified bicycle patrol officers in the police department. Seven of the bicycle patrol officers are assigned to patrol all 3 shifts and also work special events; concerts, athletic events, games, etc. The two remaining bike patrol officers have been promoted to supervision and generally patrol in vehicles. The bicycle patrol is an important aspect of the W.C.S.U. community policing program. Bike patrol officers are physically more accessible and approachable to the general public than officers in police cars.  All members of the University Police Bike Patrol have been certified through the International Police Mountain Bike Association.  We have increased the number of officers on foot and bicycle patrol on both campuses and all of our vehicles are now equipped with bicycle racks so that an officer assigned to the Westside campus can transport their bike to that campus for patrol.
