Schedule of Events: Summer 2016 Orientation*

There are three overnight orientation sessions, each one comprised of a Day 1 (day/evening program) and a Day 2 (morning program).  For easiest access, please park in the Fifth Avenue Parking Garage.

Schedule for Students and Parents

DAY 1 Day Program
8-10 a.m. OPTIONAL: Placement Testing in Higgins Annex Room 114
9:30-10:30 a.m. Check-in for students and parents in Warner Hall. Faculty check-in at the SC/CC info desk.
10:30-11 a.m. Western Welcome in Ives Concert Hall for all students and family
11 a.m.-noon Student-to-student program on Fairfield Lawn or in Bill Williams Gym in case of rain. 
Students only.
11 a.m.-noon Parent Workshop:  University 101 - Ives Concert Hall which is in White Hall.
noon-1:30 p.m.
  • Lunch will be served in the Midtown Student Center Restaurant except Honors Students and Secondary Education Majors.  Please see below. 

    If students finish early, they may use the time to get their student ID, computer accounts, visit the WCSU Bookstore or grab a snack in the Danbury Room
  • Honors Program Student Meeting in Kathwari Honors House. Lunch will be served for Honors Program students.

  • Secondary Education Students Meeting in White Hall 122. Lunch will be served for Secondary Education students.

noon-1:30 p.m. Lunch for parents in the Midtown Student Center Restaurant
1 p.m. MONDAY ONLY: Shuttle Bus leaves Midtown from the Student Center Shuttle Stop to take VPA students to the Westside for the Dean's Welcome and Department Meetings.  There will be a shuttle back to Midtown between 2-5 p.m.  On Tuesday/Wednesday, VPA will have a meeting place on Midtown for the Dean's Welcome as well as individual classrooms for each of the three Department Meetings for VPA students not able to attend on Monday.

               -  Monday - Concert Hall in the VPAB on the Westside Campus
               -  Tuesday/Wednesday - White Hall 329

  Department Meetings with students; students meet with faculty.  Specific room assignments will be listed on each student's schedule when they arrive at Orientation.  Faculty will receive the room assignments through their department chairs.
1:30-3 p.m. Information Tables about campus services in Warner Hall for parents
2:30-3:15 p.m. Parent Workshop:  Financial Aid in the Midtown Student Center Room 201.  Parents only.
3:30-4:15 p.m. Faculty Roundtable for student group 1.  Select faculty will discuss strategies for being successful at college.  White Hall 127.  Students only.  Students will be assigned to a group when they check-in at Orientation in the morning.

Group 2 students
will pick up their things for the overnight program from Warner 103 and move into Newbury Hall.  If students finish early, they may use the time to get their student ID, computer accounts, visit the WCSU Bookstore or grab a snack in the Danbury Room.
3:30-4:15 p.m. Faculty Roundtable for student group 2.  Select faculty will discuss strategies for being successful at college.  White Hall 127.  Students only.  Students will be assigned to a group when they check-in at Orientation in the morning.

5:30 p.m. Dinner for students staying for the overnight program

DAY 2 Morning Program
8-9 a.m. Breakfast in the Midtown Student Center Restaurant.
9-10 a.m. Send-off Celebration in the Midtown Student Center Restaurant.

Students will be able to get their student ID, computer accounts, and buy books anytime during the day or may return any time over the summer (please check individual offices' websites for office hours).
