WCSU marketing chapter recognized among best in the nation
American Marketing Association ranks Western among top 20 collegiate chapters

DANBURY, CONN. — The Western Connecticut State University chapter of the American Marketing Association has been recognized for the sixth consecutive year as one of the association’s leading collegiate affiliates in the nation.

The WCSU student organization, which has consistently placed among the top 25 AMA collegiate chapters since 2011, rose this year to its highest ranking to date at 18th place among the 370 colleges and universities represented as AMA affiliates, and first among all New England AMA collegiate chapters. The ranking is based on an evaluation of each collegiate chapter by marketing faculty members and professionals who judge the chapter’s performance based on criteria including professional development, community and social impact, membership, fundraising and campus operations.

During the association’s International Collegiate Conference March 2016 in New Orleans, the WCSU chapter was recognized for outstanding performance in the exhibition, Marketing Week and case competition categories. The nine Western students who attended the annual conference participated in an invited presentation and panel on how to establish a student agency, as well as a Strategic Allocation of Business Resources (SABRE) market simulation, a poster session presentation of their consumer research project, and a diversity of workshops and training sessions.

Western participants in the conference included Matthew Distasio, of Watertown; Jean Dos Santos, of Danbury; Eljay Feuerman, of Bethel; Bobbie Gasparri, of North Salem, New York; Rubina Hussain, of Ridgefield; Alec Iacovelli, of New Fairfield; Mikayla Melaas, of Woodbury; Marios Peripanos, of New Milford; and Ethan Strang, of Danbury. Faculty advisers of the Western AMA collegiate chapter are Dr. Ronald Drozdenko, professor and chair of the WCSU Marketing Department, and Donna Coelho, assistant professor of management and marketing.
