WCSU students to hear from Commonfund CEO
DANBURY, CONN. — Commonfund President and Chief Executive Officer Verne O. Sedlacek will discuss investment management at 1:40 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, in Room 218 of the Westside Classroom Building on the Western Connecticut State University Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Sedlacek will discuss the current economic environment, as well as the financial decisions that firms may need to consider under current market conditions. The talk will be free and open to WCSU faculty, staff and students only.
This is Sedlacek’s second visit to campus. He was the fall 2012 President’s Lecture Series featured speaker. At that time, he discussed “What’s Next: Global Policy and Economic Challenge Ahead.”
Sedlacek joined Commonfund in 2002 and was appointed president and CEO in 2003. Previously with the Harvard Management Company, Sedlacek was responsible for managing personnel, budgets, systems, performance, operations and market risk evaluation for the multi-billion dollar university fund.
WCSU Assistant Professor of Finance Chin-Wen Huang, who invited Sedlacek to return to campus, said, “Mr. Sedlacek has a talent for making complex financial concepts easy to understand — therefore making finance an interesting subject to those who may think otherwise. His last presentation encouraged many of our students to keep up their passion for finance and motivated them to pursue their dreams. He sets a great role model for all business students.”
Sedlacek has served on many nonprofit and for-profit boards. Commonfund provides fund management and investment advice for nonprofit institutions. He currently serves on the boards of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges and the New York Stock Exchange Pension Managers Advisory Board.
He earned an A.B. in economics from Princeton and is a certified public accountant in New York.
