WCSU business school invites students to ‘Ancell Day’ on Sept. 19
Festive event features BBQ, games, raffle and information on Ancell School programs
DANBURY, CONN. — The Western Connecticut State University Ancell School of Business will mix fun, food and information about the school’s programs during its “Ancell Day” celebration for current and prospective ASB students from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.
The school will sponsor the event as a festive and informal gathering that both educates and entertains Western students who already have declared majors in an ASB department or remain undecided on a major and wish to learn more about ASB programs. The Ancell School offers majors in the departments of Accounting, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems and Marketing, as well as the Division of Justice and Law Administration.
Students with a valid Western ID will be invited to enjoy a barbecue luncheon and free games on the south plaza of the Westside Campus Center. WCSU students attending the event will receive a ticket for free entry in a raffle featuring a wide range of prizes, and may earn an additional ticket for each informational table they visit.
The “Ancell Day” informational display will showcase the opening this fall of the school’s Learning Commons, which will offer tutoring, advisement and other programs designed to enrich the academic experience for Ancell students. A pilot program over the past three years for at-risk Ancell students has demonstrated clear success in promoting achievement of higher grades and improved mastery in course work.
“The Learning Commons is committed to offering every Ancell student the tools needed for academic and career success,” observed Interim ASB Dean Dr. James Donegan. “We advise at-risk students, provide tutoring geared to all levels of competence, and offer a wide range of support services and enrichment events designed to help each student draw the greatest value from an Ancell education.”
Other tables at the event will offer information about the Ancell Alumni Mentor Program and student clubs and organizations in the Ancell School, including the marketing club’s ongoing “Your Big Idea” competition promoting creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Representatives of several groups also will provide materials to inform students about university and community programs including the Career Development Center, WCSU Veterans Services, the International Student Exchange Program, the Academic Resource Mentors and the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury. The Robert S. Young Library of the Ancell School will host a table and invite students to participate in a scavenger hunt to compete for a chance to win a Nook.
In addition to ASB, sponsors for event prizes include Sodexo, the WCSU Bookstore, the Office of Institutional Advancement, and other university departments and organizations.
